It’s Delicious!

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:57 pm by sherrybb

This is a very interesting online tool.
With three desktops at work, and one at home, I am the Bookmark Queen.
I don’t want to search again for a site that I’ve found and liked/loved/enjoyed.

However, bookmarks on one computer are not accessible across our network to be used on another computer, and most definitely not from home. I have called my son and said, “Can you go into my bookmarks and open such-and-such a page. I’d like to use it at work.”

This would keep the grumbling to a minimum at home when I call and someone is in the middle of a Battlefield or Dungeon (while playing World of Warcraft). Don’t I know I’m imposing on their good nature and time! ahah.

Great little tool. I may have to create an account and give it a whirl.

Letter James is Fab!

Very cool application

There have been many a time while working on Brochures/Flyers or Signage at work that I’ve wanted to add text to an image. Publisher does it, and Paint will do it, however, you often end up with flat text that have no ZIP or PIZZAZ. Letter James offers something a little different.

I have a few graphic programs at home, but that’s at home…and not at work. This is a wonderful application that I will probably have use for in the future.

Library Thing

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:26 pm by sherrybb

I’ve heard of Library Thing from a friend. I’ve looked at it before, but because I was already using a book application on Facebook, I passed by this little gem.

I find it interesting that they are using Marc records already available…a sharing of information has always been the ideal. Here is a smart little application that is taking already available information and adding a social aspect to our books. We shouldn’t be book worms holed up at home reading to blindness…it’s great to see the links for talk, groups and local…talking books is as much fun as reading them!

What’s the fuss all about?
I wonder what so-and-so is up to? How’ve you been? Or, as Rerun said on that 70’s TV show….”What’s happening????”

In an age when computers were supposed to simplify life and give us more time for family, friends and recreation; it hasn’t happened!

We are busier than ever, and for those of us who don’t keep in touch with the news, our friends or loved ones, Twitter allows you to update what you’re doing, every hour, every minute, every second of everyday. And, some do. :/

I can see how this can be useful for some, to keep up-to-date on important things, however…when mundane and mediocre take over Twitter with posts like: my cat coughed up a furball, OR, I just picked my nose…then maybe it’s time to consider the fact that you do indeed have more time than you realized and call or visit instead!

What’s Happening…?

The NYC Public Library

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:16 pm by sherrybb

It seems that the New York Public Library has updated their website, but not in a good way. The comments posted on this blog have been negative; the discussion in regards to who researched the need, who did the work, and why is so much space wasted.
“How am I supposed to be inspired by the redesign” seems to be the question.

Cool new tool.
RSS Feeds.

RSS Feeds and Google Reader – Week 5

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:08 pm by sherrybb

As a Google subscriber, it was easy to add Google Reader to my list of services. I added two blogs to follow, as suggested and also did a bit of searching for other pages to follow.

I can see how this might be convenient for those who do spend a lot of time online following blogs and pages, however, it’s not something I’d have much time for in the workplace.

I haven’t done a newsfeed before, so this was something new. Thanks.

Week 3 of Library Web 2.0

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:50 am by sherrybb

I am sitting in a quiet office this morning, there is extra staff and I am using my off-desk time to catch up on this exercise in learning new technologies.

I have set up a Flickr account. I have visited Flickr on many occasions, but never felt the need to have another application to post photos. I spend most of my online time for personal use at home, only searching the internet for information or photos for brochures for work.

I’ve included some photos that I took of the Temporary Location.

Edit: I’ll have to figure out how to make those photos visible to the public. D’oh.

7 1/2 Habits of a Lifelong Learner

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:23 am by sherrybb

Interesting presentation.

I agree that learning is a lifelong process and does not end with the formal education that we endure as young students in public educational institutions. Accepting responsibility for your own learning is important. The onus is yours. To be closed to new lessons and opportunities will result in stagnation in your life, your family, your career. The world is quickly evolving and changing around us, if we do not change and adapt to those changes, we will be left behind.

Enjoy what you do, do what you enjoy, learning will come naturally.

I have created a blog at WordPress rather than Blogger only because I have a Blogger account and I wanted to try something new and different for this training. Enjoy and please feel free to comment.
